Ukraine vs Iceland kick-off time

Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Kick-off time: 7:45 pm GMT

Venue: Tarczynski Arena

The UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying match between Ukraine and Iceland will be played at the Tarczynski Arena in Wrocław, Poland.

It will kick off at 7:45 pm GMT on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in the United Kingdom (UK).

While no Ukrainian players suffered injuries in the semi-final tie with Bosnia, Girona wing wizard Viktor Tsygankov was left out of the squad entirely due to injury and is unlikely to be fit for the match against Iceland, despite returning to training.

Ukraine possible XI: Lunin; Konoplya, Zabarnyi, Matvienko, Mykolenko; Zinchenko, Brazhko; Zubkov, Sudakov, Mudryk; Dovbyk

Iceland picked up a double blow in their demolition job of Israel, where goalscorer Traustason and Blackburn Rovers winger Arnor Sigurdsson were both forced off through injury.

While Traustason should be cleared in time to feature here, Sigurdsson has been withdrawn from the squad and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, joining fellow winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson (thigh) in the treatment room.

Iceland possible XI: Valdimarsson; Palsson, Ingason, Gretarsson, Thorarinsson; Thorsteinsson, Johannesson, Haraldsson, Willumsson; A. Gudmundsson, Oskarsson

This is one of three play-off finals taking place, with Wales hosting Poland and Georgia facing Greece as the final spots at this summer’s major tournament in Germany are filled.

Ukraine scored twice in the final five minutes to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1 and keep their Euros dreams alive, having qualified for the last three European Championships.

Iceland, meanwhile, comfortably saw off Israel with a 4-1 victory, as they bid to reach a major tournament for just the third time. The winner of this play-off will go into Group E in the summer, facing Belgium, Slovakia and Romania. While Ukraine were drawn to have home advantage in the final, the match is taking place in Poland due to the ongoing war with Russia.

Due to Ukraine's ongoing defense of their country from the Russian invasion, many soccer supporters will be backing them to make it to this summer's European Championship.

Ukraine came agonizingly close to qualifying for the last World Cup but lost 1-0 to Wales in the playoff final. Gareth Bale's free-kick was inadvertently headed in by their captain Andriy Yarmolenko. They are without Yarmolenko this week as he is recovering from knee surgery. He is back playing in his homeland for Dynamo Kyiv and has scored four times in six games in the Premier Liga this season.

They still have Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mykhailo Mudryk, Illya Zabarnyi and Vitaliy Mykolenko -who are all at Premier League clubs- in their roster. They beat Bosnia and Herzegovina to make it to the playoff final thanks to a late winner from Artem Dovbyk -- who plays his club soccer with Girona.

Ukraine's opposition Iceland have only ever qualified for one European Championship. They stamped their mark at Euro 2016 by making it to the quarter-finals and defeating England along the way.
